Has anyone heard of the Mumbai Terror Attack? That was a rhetorical question. I, as have many others, have been hooked onto the television for the past 3 days, watching the news; at first with a sense of absolute and complete disbeleief, turning into a dull sense of reality, like that when one is hovering near the edge of the conscious border.
The various multitudes that is the press and media have termed it as a ‘WAR‘ on the sanctity of the common man.
Even now, as it all ends, I am filled with a disturbing sense of insecurity – ‘We could be next…’. The plain surrealism of this whole incident leaves one quite speechless. As the day passed by, leaving with it, unforgettable dregs of horror and gore, and a bloody anger towards those who plotted this inhuman act, we are faced by the sheer magnitude of this ghastly reality.
The various multitudes that is the press and media have termed it as a ‘WAR‘ on the sanctity of the common man. This, many feel, is quite right in its reckoning, and needs to be dealt with as such. The anger that has issued out of this crucible of the masses, has been spreading, almost feverish, amongst the people, against the politicians and the perpetrators of this vile attack.
Quite understandably, the poison wrath has alarmed the government, who, even as I write this, are restructuring their core, trying to make amends. It has already sacked its home minister, and two other ministers resignations are in the offing. But is it too late, too little? This question has many answers, but we may find ourselves finding this out in the coming days, slowly unraveling, its complex answer.
Across the web, the incident has been recounted, retold, and horrific and graphic videos have been put up on sites such as youtube, of this very real incident. A swift look at comments made on blogs, and I see, in raw directness, the anger of the common man. Many have made comments that may not be wise, and I feel, some of us are letting ourselves flee our logic and reason. This is something that I find disturbing. This should be a battle of reason; of power over ourselves first and the safe-guarding of our country; not blind rage, for its consequences are indeed dire.
There can be no conclusion to this dreadful event, for it lights a fire in our hearts, but it can be put at an end, and we can make sure it is the last such incident to take place, here, not only in India, but all over the World. Let it not be forgotten that it was our country’s security force that saved us, and not the politicians and bureaucrats.
